Mark has been a trial attorney since 1993, having tried over 60 cases, including more than 40 jury trials. After spending 18 years with the largest firm in Iowa, Mark joined with Patrick White to form Schultheis White, PLC. Mark is a Fellow in the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mark has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America in commercial litigation since 2018.

Membership in the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers is limited to 250 attorneys who have displayed exceptional skills and the highest integrity, and have dedicated their professional lives to trial practice. Membership is by invitation only, with recommendation from peers and judges, and requires unanimous approval by the Board of Governors of the Academy.

The American College of Trial Lawyers is recognized as the preeminent organization of trial lawyers in North America, dedicated to maintaining and improving the standards of trial practice, professionalism, ethics, and the administration of justice. Membership is limited to one percent of the lawyers in the State of Iowa.

Mark has the preeminent AV rating from Martindale Hubbell, a rating received from peers in the legal community.

Mark’s career has encompassed a broad litigation practice, and he now focuses on personal injury and commercial litigation. He handles cases involving medical and professional malpractice, product liability, motor vehicle accidents, and other personal injury torts. Mark’s commercial practice includes contract and other business disputes. Mark handles administrative appeals of awards related to state procurement. Mark also has experience in estate, trust, and fiduciary litigation.

Mark has taught trial advocacy skills at numerous continuing education seminars, speaking on the topics of jury selection, opening statements, closing arguments, cross-examination of expert witnesses, and ethical obligations and considerations related to professional competence.

Mark has appellate experience in the Iowa Supreme Court, Iowa Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Mark received his BA from the University of Iowa and graduated, with high honors, from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1993.
